Melissa Harris-Lacewell speaking at Bryn Mawr College Wed. March 3rd

Melissa Harris-Lacewell will give the keynote address for Bryn Mawr College’s celebration of Black History Month at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 3, in Thomas Great Hall. The lecture, ”Your Black Is Not Like Mine: How Gender Complicates African American Politics,” is free and open to the public.

Harris-Lacewell is an associate professor of politics and African-American studies at Princeton University. She is the author of the award-winning book Barbershops, Bibles, and BET: Everyday Talk and Black Political Thought. She is currently at work on a new book, Sister Citizen: A Text For Colored Girls Who’ve Considered Politics When Being Strong Wasn’t Enough.

In addition to her scholarly publications, Harris-Lacewell regularly provides expert commentary on U.S. elections, racial issues, religious questions, and gender concerns for both The Rachel Maddow Show and Countdown with Keith Olbermann. Her writings have appeared in newspapers throughout the country, and she is a regular contributor at TheNation.com.
